I was entering the class thinking about if this teacher will be nice or mean. I neve put 100% into anything and I just want to pass. I never really had anything where I want to but my time and around something. I wasn’t in a good mood since the last teachers didn’t look promising. I enter here and Dr.Preston introduce himself and one of his first sentences, he cusses. I was in awe. I was only thinking ok this might be the best teacher I’ll have this year, because what I got from him screamed different and unusual. I was correct! We didn’t read stories that were revolutionary for its time, we got stories that still are relatable to us.  Dr.Preston wanted us to feel like we had an opinion so we had the choice to post on the blogs about how we felt about the passage or we just base it on a summary. My favorite post was where one day I just wanted to post about how video games don’t cause violence. I just wanted to and something else I loved was It didn’t take us months to finish these passages we could read in about one or two days to finish and then post about it. We didn’t make an essay on “this is what the character did and this what it meant” nope! We did “I found this interesting to me because blank” isn’t that amazing, Not only did we give our opinions and they were accepted we got feedback on what the other students thought about our comments. To me this is the definition of a learning experiences, however this does not mean it was perfect. I felt like it’s pretty darn close but because the classes are only 50 minutes long, we don’t have much time to do out blogs and other assignments. If we had 1 hour and 30 minutes or 2 hours this would be the perfect learning environment. This is when I developed strategies to become a bit better in this open source learning. I sometimes do other things to cover up my blog posts because in all honesty I forget about them because it’s not something I would consider a hobby but more like a school assignment. Since I also have other classes I tend to worry about those now then about this class since I’m caught up in trying to keep up. Though I love the assignments where we share our Ideas which doesn’t happen often, which is the journal. I hope we can collaborate with our peers. I want to be a group where we can put our ideas together in a poster or essay.because I want to show how different I am from the start of the year. I wasn’t gonna do much of the work unless I got a passing grade and now I want to get everything done to the point where I am satisfied with what I got in my assignment. What Dr.Preston is doing is something really beneficial.to us students because I did not want to read books I wasn’t interested in or was forced to read and break down and write it down to get it corrected and thrown away. I still don’t put 100% but this is the first time I put at least 70% into something so feel like I did something well for once. My favorite part about this semester was the interview and this is where I changed. I was so nervous and I didn’t think I’d do well and once I got up there. All eyes on me. It felt like I had a dagger against my neck, but what I did was think about something that is more scary than this. All my worries went away and I was smiling the whole interview and I was enjoying myself. I want to do the interview again if I could.

Difference

I think the time i made a differences In someone's life is when I was there for him when his mother was battling cancer. I took him to places so he could have a bit of fun. I gave him a reason to smile sometimes and looking back at it, I'm really glad I did that. He is like family to mine. My father even calls him his son. He thought that was cool because he never had a father.

Self Reliance part 2

What caught my attention is how Dr. Preston was talking about teenage behavior and this fits with me. Whatever I do I say it's fun, boring, stupid, etc. I know this because my friends are also like this. We aren't much different but the uniqueness from all of us is important yet a threat to the world.

Self Reliance

My first time hearing this classwork assignment, it felt like a ted talk. A person going up and telling me why I should do this or that and it still surprised me that this many people have ideas but never say anything until someone says what they were thinking. I just felt like why this happens is because of society and how it has formed here. If it was more strict on not judging people than just telling you that's bad then it would help this generation so much for the next coming years.

My essay about the YGB

In the novel of Young Goodman Brown is a story about a man taking a walk, or is he taking a walk? His wife who loves him dearly, or does she? That's the whole story. Does he, or does he not? His life was built upon religion and trust and by the end, everything completely changes when this illusion goes away? We have no context if he was asleep before even walking or during the walk or even if this walk ever happen. This illusion? It had his wife named faith, die right in front of him, everyone he knew they were evil. Devil worshipers. All he knew was completely flip, now he doesn't trust anyone.

In reality, should we really trust anyone or anything? In this novel everything was like a nightmare, all was peaceful. Then boom, everything was back to normal? This whole story is just a huge question mark. That's all the theme is, you can believe what you want but we don't know if young goodman brown really did meet the devil nor seen his faith vanish. In one of the sections of goodman brown woke up, or not we don't know. Upon the climax it looked like everything he had was gone. His wife, his beliefs, and his community. It was like a nightmare. Now, everything seems fine expect young goodman brown.

Young Goodman Brown looked like he was in a world of deception. It seems like what he is thinking is all of you are acting like you did nothing wrong. Even ignoring his faith. We could go the extra layer and say he had ROCD, where the person is in doubt about their relationships. Though we will never know.

In conclusion there was no conclusion in the story. The only way there will be an ending is through you. You can decide if it was a dream or not. If the people around are good or evil. If what he woke up to is still a nightmare inside a nightmare.

The medium is the message

I normal like to talk to someone in person instead of using my phone to communicate with others. I do sometimes use texting on Social Media on applications like Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube, and Twitter. There are other ways to communicate just like texting such as email however I do not use that as often and only use it for making accounts on websites or applications.

My teacher Dr.Preston gave me a great idea to consider making a handwritten letter to someone through the mail. I'd love to try it and see what the other person will thing.

ain't got time for this

My hobbies consist of sports mainly soccer or how I like to call it football. I practice about 2 hours maybe have a practice match against another team. I like playing video games mostly named Geometry Dash, but I have cut down my time in video games. My most time-consuming activity in school.

I need to cut more time on videos games, and spend more time on school since I am being forced here but I do need it.

"The Earth on the turtle's back"

The Earth on the turtle's back, was apparently where there is only water, birds, and fish swimming. There was an ancient chief whose young wife had a dream of a Great uprooted tree. The chief said he wanted to do anything he could to pull up the tree. Skipping to the end there was a bird who broke the "surface" and didn't know where to put it. Then the Great Turtle said to put it on it's back. Then earth was creating apparently.

Overall I don't really get what's going on. There is a time where this is happening but then they need to do something else to solve the problem and it was harder to understand because there was a lot going on and a lot of information.

The Mentor

Diction: The Mentor's words that he selects are words like tampering, incompetents, profiteering gluttons, and criminals. These words all have something in common though, They all label a human being. I found this interesting because he hated being called something he wasn't representing, yet he went back at them calling them names they don't want.

Syntax: The author has a simple format but it's really effective. He has this statement "Damn kids" and "they're all alike" then turns it into something powerful by accepting that they are all alike which I was not expecting at all.

Tone:  The author's tone was frustrated because he was pulling out insults like Juan pulls his earbuds in class.

Conscience of a Hacker

I think finding something you like as long as you are not trying to hurt anyone. I think it's fine, but if they are going to get money illegally like stealing money from banks or stealing identities.

Why is the world more sensitive?

If you don't know about the era of useless protest, I can tell you people are fighting about the dumbest things ever. Ironic that I am arguing about people's arguments on why they should bring the McRib back on the menu. Seriously It's a thing! It was so bad that people started flooding the streets and overturning cars, they made bonfires in a mall atriums, the funniest moment of this was that Mcdonalds said: that the sandwich would return and it was only a marketing gimmick." In the article, found about this situation of adult babies throwing a fit for not getting sweets was someone muttering "oh, my bad."

There are many protests that are valid as the people's climate march in September 2014, or like the women march which had over 3 million people! These aren't perfect of course but they have a reason. For example the women's march, they wanted to show that women's rights were also human rights. I'd like to say that the women's march is the biggest one-day protest in U.S history, way to go women!

Another thing I'd like to say is jokes. There are racist jokes out there that people will call offensive and will accuse someone of being something they are not over a joke. Famous Youtuber Felix Kjellberg was reported to be an anti-Semitic, over a nazi joke. I won't go to into detail, but he made a joke about "death to all jews". It was a joke but people started calling him a nazi, it went as far as Disney to cut ties with him. He learns from this mistake and moves on, but think about it. This little joke, this tiny little statement almost ruin his career. It wasn't right to say but I don't think it shouldn't go as far as ruining someone's life because they made a little joke.

Does video games cause violence?

Hello readers, today I'm writing with the intention of being understood, I feel like what I'm talking about is very controversial and sensitive.

There has been a recent erupted of accusations if video games caused violence. There have been many atrocious shooting to where the murderer was linked to first-person shooters or any game with shooting "someone" that resembles a human being. In Germany, there was a disastrous shooting in the city of Munich, 9 people were killed. There was a report on him being a big fan of first-person shooters. This might of been the cause of why he did it, but nor was it the reason he did it. There could've been other things in his past of why he did it. Movies, Social Media, Music, even school.

The question I ask is, why isn't there more shootings if video games cause violence/lead people to kill another human being? There are over millions are millions of people who play Call of Duty, Gears of War, Overwatch, It's ridiculous that people are blaming video games for the horrible events the others cause. The most popular video game is a kids game. Think about that for a second. The game that everyone is talking about is a kids game. The game is called Minecraft, is a game about you being spawn in a world and you try your best to survive. You can build, Mine for resources, Travel around your own world, and so much more. It's a video game with a beautiful community, yet video games as a whole are being attacked.

Furthermore, these shootings are atrocious and should never happen. It hurts to see innocent people die. What I think is leading to all these shootings is mental health, I don't believe and never want to believe someone wanted to shoot a public crowd just because they wanted to. I'd love to hear what other people think especially when we are making the same mistake we did years ago. Only blaming one group of products or people. There could've been a rough childhood. I'm not saying video games have nothing to do with this, but I do think they can be a reason. There are many other reasons and I want people to understand that.

You are not entitled to your opinion.  Citizen always want to be right even when their answer is solely based on opinion. Example is food, everyone taste food differently.  You might think something Is better than what the other person has but you know their opinion is the truth for them.
